Pre-owned, excellent condition Rolex Explorer II reference 1655/0 Stainless Steel gents wristwatch, nicknamed as the "Steve McQueen" or "Freccione", which comes from the Italian word 'Freccia' meaning 'arrow', in reference to the bright orange arrow-shaped 24-hour hand on the watch. The reference 1655 was only produced by Rolex from 1971 through 1984. Though this particular model, the Mark 4 variation, was only producted between the years 1977-1980.
The Mark 4 Black dial features hours with painted tritium lume as indicated by the 'T Swiss < 25 T' text at 6 o'clock. The lume on this dial and handset has aged evenly and smoothly, turning a fantastic creamy colour. Likewise the "Freccione" 24-hour arrow hand has turned a very light orange-yellow at the mid-point to the tip, and retains more of a brighter orange hue near the hand top - creating the fantastic and unique effect of an orange to yellow fade!
Classic date display at 3 o'clock, a Stainless Steel 40mm case, bezel with engraved graduated 24-hour Arabic numerals, winder, Oyster bracelet and deployant clasp, acrylic glass and automatic movement. This watch has a serial: 607XXXX and was produced in 1979.
