Rolex King Midas Cellini | REF. 4126 | Wood Dial | 18k Yellow Gold | 28mm | Manual Wind | 1976
Pre-owned, excellent condition Rolex King Midas Cellini, reference 4126, 18k Yellow Gold wristwatch from 1976. Wood dial, three baton hour markers at each quarter, the Rolex crown at twelve, an 18k Yellow Gold 28mm case, hobnail bezel and crown interestingly placed on the left side (see below), a Rolex signed gold-plated classic pin buckle with the Rolex crown and an unworn Rolex brown leather crocodile strap, sapphire crystal glass and manual wind movement.
The King Midas was designed in 1962 by the legendary Gérald Genta, who drew inspiration from the Temple of the Parthenon in Athens. Its distinctive triangular case echoes the geometry of the temple’s upper silhouette. Genta also referenced Greek mythology: the crown was deliberately placed on the left-hand side, alluding to King Midas, who, according to myth, turned everything to gold with the touch of his left hand.
